Cosner advances to eighth-place finish in Appalachian Mountain Speedweek opener

Both Eddie Carrier Jr. and Matt Cosner were on hand at Clinton County Speedway (Mill Hall, Pa.) on Friday afternoon for the revival of the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek.

Drawing 40 cars for the first race of eight in a span of 10 days, both drivers raced their way into show in heats with Cosner trailing Carrier in the first heat to finish third. The feature found both Cosner Racing pilots wheeling their way into the top-10, with Eddie finishing seventh and Matt going from 15th-to-8th.

For the $5,000-to-win Appalachian Mountain Speedweek event on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pa.), Matt topped the 50-car field in time trials with a blistering 19.136-second lap while Eddie edged his way into the A-Main with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Carrier passed six cars in the 35-lap affair to finish 14th while Cosner crossed the line in 11th.

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday at Hagerstown Speedway (Hagerstown, Md.) with both drivers challenging for a top-10 finish in the feature. Rolling off 11th and 16th, Carrier faded to finish 13th while Matt jumped up five positions to place 11th.

With the first three events in the books, Matt is currently eighth and Eddie is 10th in the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek point standings.
