Matt Cosner races into Silver Dollar Nationals at Huset's
Making a surprise start in South Dakota, Matt Cosner trekked 17 hours west to Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, S.D.) on Thursday as the 13th annual Silver Dollar Nationals weekend kicked off at its new home.
With 40 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on the grounds for the three-day event, Matt missed a transfer spot by one car in his heat, relegating him into a B-Main. Locking his spot into the $12,000-to-win Go 50 prelim with a runner-up run in his consolation race, Cosner went onto finish 19th in the 50-lapper.
For a pair of heat races on Saturday afternoon after Mother Nature shifted Friday’s program back, Cosner followed up an eighth-place finish in the first round with a fourth-place showing in his second heat.
With passing points from heat races setting the grid for Saturday night’s main event, Cosner failed to make it out of his B-Main but soared to the non-qualifier victory, which allowed him to tag the tail of the $53,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals finale. Moving forward two spots in the 80-lap affair, Matt crossed the line in 23rd.
