Cosner notches fourth-place finish in North-South prelim at Florence

Joined by his teammate Eddie Carrier Jr., Matt Cosner rolled into the Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) on Thursday evening to compete with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) for the 41st annual Sunoco North-South 100 weekend.

With the 61-car field separated into two groups for a pair of preliminary features, Cosner pulled off a thrilling last-lap pass in his heat race to capture the eight-lap victory. Chasing a $5,000 payday in his prelim, Matt ran as high as third but lost a position following a late-race restart to finish fourth. He followed Bobby Pierce, Ryan Gustin, and Josh Rice across the line with Cory Hedgecock coming in fifth. Eddie raced into the feature via consolation victory and went onto pass seven cars to place 15th.

Backing up Thursday’s fourth-place preliminary finish with another top-five run in Friday’s prelim, Matt took the green in sixth and inched forward one spot to finish fifth, which came behind Bobby Pierce, Jonathan Davenport, Stormy Scott, and Cory Hedgecock. Eddie improved one spot in his prelim to finish 16th.

On Saturday, Cosner missed a transfer spot by one car in both his heat race and B-Main, ending his bid into the $75,000-to-win North-South 100. He earned a spot into the non-qualifier feature where he recorded a third-place outing. Carrier’s night was over after finishing eighth in his consolation event.
