Top-10 finish for ECJ in Weiland Winternationals opener at East Bay

Eddie Carrier Jr. and Matt Cosner Racing followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.) on Monday afternoon as the 1/3-mile oval hosted the Wieland Winternationals for six consecutive nights of racing.

With the 58-car field split into two groups for qualifying, Eddie laid down the fourth-fastest time in his group before placing third in his heat. Starting the preliminary feature in 14th, Carrier charged forward four positions in the 30-lapper to register a 10th-place finish.

For another $5,000-to-win prelim on Tuesday, Carrier edged his way into the show with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Pulling off on lap 21, Eddie was scored 21st on the rundown.

In a field of 65 cars on Wednesday, Eddie’s 10th-place finish in his heat race relegated him into a B-Main. Sending the top-two into the feature, Carrier gained five positions but fell short of a transfer spot with a ninth-place outing.

Following a 10th-place finish in his heat race on Thursday, Carrier made the decision to scratch from his B-Main after being slated to start deep in the field.

With his teammate Matt Cosner joining him on Friday, both drivers missed a transfer spot in their heat, dropping them into a consolation race. Needing to place second or better, Matt and Eddie recorded a seventh-place finish, ending their night early.

An unfavorable forecast for Saturday’s program washed out the Wieland Winternationals finale.
